Name of Assignment: World Cuban Missile Crisis Subject: Humanities 11 Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Terry
In Humanities, we learned about the Cold War. It was the USSR vs. The U.S. and both their allies. It was called a “Cold War” because there wasn’t any physical battle between the USSR and the U.S. (Hot War). They were the two superior powers but with two different economic opinions (Communists vs. Capitalists). Which is why they fought; they did not agree on economics and many more. For this assignment, we found out that the U.S. was trying to take over Cuba. The USSR was on Cuba’s side, so the USSR sent a letter to the President telling them to stop. The president had options on what to do next, we had to decide which option would be best. We decided that the best option would be to remove our missiles from Turkey and their missiles from Cuba.
This task was a good example of Informational Skills because we had to read a lot of newspapers from back then. We had to gather all that information to make a decision for the President and the country. We as a group had to analyze each paper that we had. I read most of them because I felt like I had a better understanding of the whole assignment. Afterwards, we used what we learned to come up with a decision on what to do.
I am most proud of the fact that I was able to communicate well with the group. I feel like I came into this assignment with a good and positive attitude. I am also proud that I took initiative most of the time. Normally, I would let someone take control but I felt different that day.
The task's difficult part was trying to assemble the pieces to figure out the mystery. I think that I didn’t do too well in this part. My group members were good at putting puzzles together. I felt kind of useless and confused in this part of the assignment. Luckily, my group members were helpful and better at solving.
I can improve this work by having more conversations between all group members. I think that we just agreed on one thing that one person said. It would’ve been interesting if someone had a different option that they thought would be best. I thought that we should have attacked Cuba/USSR. They kind of moved on already so I kept it to myself. Next time, I will remember to speak up and share my opinion.
